In 5 days we did so much that once returned to London, I was - happily - exhausted !
Day 1 : Early morning to travel from Stansted - 1 of the 5 London airports. Located in the far outskirts of the city, in the middle of nowhere, I had to take the overground for an hour and then a national express coach for another hour to catch a 2-hour flight to the Hungarian capital... That's what it is when you travel with low cost airlines... Anyway, the journey was worth it as when arrived I could finally feel the Sun-mer in my skin - 30 degrees, please ! My friend was still at work so I made my first steps alone in the streets of Budapest. I was rather surprised by how locals are so helpful and respectful. For instance, absolutely no one would cross the street if the signal was red and even if there was no car at a short distance. In London as well as in Paris, everyone crosses as soon as possible, rushing to avoid a car accident !
Day 2 : Inès took two days off so that we could stay together for the four next days... and holidays officially started ! Shorts, sunglasses and cameras, we were ready to sightsee Buda and Pest joint by several bridges. We could go from one side to the other using a student monthly pass (bus, underground and tram) I only paid £12... The price of a day travelcard in London, imagine ! Everything was so cheap (less than £1 for a Langos, typical Hungarian lunch made from a large donut with all sorts of fillings such as sour cream, grated cheese, tomatoes, ham, etc) that at the end of the day we treated ourselves and went on a night cruise along the Danube river... Stunning views of the Parliament, the Castle, the Liberty Statue and famous Chain Bridge... We wished we had a boyfriend as it was very romantic and full of Italian couples !
Day 3 : We decided to take a local train to reach the nearest typical village, Szentendre. At first, we were surprised by the lack of modernity... It was like time had stopped into communism... barely no cars, very small houses and poor people not with all their teeths... Nevertheless, they was a part adapted to tourists with shops selling at European rates. Not that 'stupid' these country people as I paid £20 for a traditional table cloth... hand made they said, who knows ! In the evening, the excitement and energy were still there to do something else.. So after dinner, like the numerous Italian tourists here, we had a 'passegiatta' in the Margaret Island , 'the hyde park of the Budapest' !
Day 4 : We started to feel the tiredness of going around so we went to see the Széchenyi thermes as Budapest is well-known for being the city of spas. Ideal to relax and get re-freshed for the coming night out... Cosmopolitain, Mojito, Pink Flurry... there is plenty of choices and original bars for cocktails ! You can't be bored in Budapest !!!
Day 5 : Time to pack everything : clothes ans souvenirs. A last kiss. Köszönöm (thank you, which is the only thing I can say in Hungarian) Inès !
Back to London, guess what... it was barely 15 degrees... Back to reality darling ;)
the Parliament - US - and the Castle at night !
